Promoting health and nutrition for adolescents

Under the RMNCH+A domain, we delivered targeted nutrition and immunization interventions across multiple states, strengthening the health of mothers and children while placing adolescents at the heart of our key initiatives. JSI R&T India Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that the adolescent, whether in-school or out-of-school, male or female, rural or urban, has the opportunity to thrive. Within this domain, our approach went beyond the individual, creating a supportive ecosystem by engaging adolescents, parents, educators, peer leaders, and the wider community.

Through various projects, we supported government initiatives in closing critical health gaps and securing a healthier future for the next generation.

Why focus on Adolescent Health?

Adolescence is a pivotal window for establishing lifelong health.

NFHS–3 indicates that anemia affects 56% of girls and 30% of boys aged 15–19. Indian adolescents face a dual nutritional burden where nearly half of girls and three-fifths of boys are thin, while 2.4% of girls and 1.7% of boys are overweight.

To support the holistic development of India’s 253 million adolescents, who make up over 20% of the population, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched several key initiatives:

  • Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK)
  • National Nutrition Mission & Anemia Mukt Bharat
  • Swachh Bharat Mission

Through various projects, we support government initiatives in closing critical health gaps and securing a healthier future for the next generation.

Our Approach

Service Excellence

We strengthen the delivery of the RKSK program, ensuring that government health services for adolescents are accessible, high-quality, and reliable.

01 / 03

Informed Influencers

We improve Nutrition and WASH awareness among key influencers (Teachers, Community Members, Parents) and providers (Frontline healthcare workers and Anganwadi staff). By strengthening the link to Adolescent Friendly Health Clinics (AFHC), we ensure better referral pathways for specialized care.

02 / 03

Healthy Spaces

We transform schools into wellness hubs. Our work includes early detection of communicable and non-communicable diseases, disability, and deficiencies, while maintaining digital health records to ensure age-appropriate vaccinations and wellness.
